The energy developer and Council have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in a move which will allow work to progress to the next stage.
Squadron Energy plans to fund the advanced wastewater treatment facility capable of treating up to 700 megalitres of water per year.
Squadron Energy Chairman Jason Willoughby said the commitment was part of plans to ensure the community receives wide ranging benefits from renewable energy development.
“ We are working to ensure we create legacy infrastructure for the wider community as part of our commitment to benefit sharing and we’re pleased to be working with Dubbo Regional Council on this project.”
“It’s a great example of how renewable energy companies and local councils can work together to deliver long-term benefits for an entire community, not just those located to nearby projects.
“I’m proud we’re able to contribute to water security for the region through this public private partnership,” Mr Willoughby said.
Dubbo Regional Council Mayor Mathew Dickerson said he was excited to see this partnership come to fruition and be able to deliver such a valuable asset for the community.
“Squadron Energy will fund this asset to assist them with the development of their projects in our LGA, following the completion of their projects, our community will receive the benefit of this advanced infrastructure when it is needed.”
“In conjunction with this facility Council will be able to look at additional infrastructure that will then allow recycled water to be used for irrigation of recreational assets along the foreshores of the river.
“Our community still remembers the challenges and impacts of the last drought, and Council is dedicated to ensuring a proactive approach for long term water management in our region,” Mr Dickerson said.
Mr Willougby and Mr Dickerson were joined by Squadron Energy CEO Rob Wheals and Dubbo Regional Council CEO Murray Wood for the announcement at Dubbo Sewerage Treatment Plant.
Subject to approvals, the treatment facility is expected to be delivered in 2025.
