The West Australian community is invited to have a say in the redevelopment of the Indiana Teahouse site at Perth’s iconic Cottesloe Beach.
Minderoo Group, one of Australia’s largest private investment groups, is in the process of acquiring the lease for the site and is undertaking an architectural design competition to re-invigorate the Indiana site.
Minderoo invites the public to submit ideas as part of this process, with a view to combining community concepts, with the vision of leading Australian architects to redefine the site for the benefit of all West Australians. The designs submitted by the 12 leading architects invited to participate will be judged by a panel, chaired by globally renowned West Australian architect Professor Geoffrey London. London was the Western Australia Government Architect from 2004 to 2008 and the Victorian Government Architect from 2008 to 2014.
Minderoo chairman Andrew Forrest said: “We hope our vision for the Indiana Tea House lines up with the community’s but rather than leave it to chance, we are going to give you the opportunity to get involved and share your ideas with some of Australia’s leading architects.
“We recognise Indiana is a much-loved site and a key part of the broader Cottesloe foreshore redevelopment plan and we look forward to working with the community to cement its place as a local treasure,” Mr Forrest continued.
The community-centred design process is in line with the Town of Cottesloe’s vision for the reinvigoration of the Cottesloe foreshore for the benefit of the local community and the state more broadly.
It also complements the work of Minderoo Foundation, which is funded by Minderoo Group investments. In November, Minderoo Foundation announced it would match public donations to the Town of Cottesloe’s pylon repair appeal, up to a collective total of $250,000.
